How did your father acquire the castle? Was it already in the family, or did he purchase it?

My father, the 20th-century master painter Balthus, bought the Castle of Montecavello in 1970.

He had discovered it in the late 1960s, but the current owner did not want to part with it. Therefore, my father visited over sixty other castles from Southern Italy to the Tyrol without finding a better one that was a substitute for his artistic requirements. To his luck, the owner eventually changed her mind and sold it to my father.
