Brian Jones Difficult Years with The Rolling Stones a documentary by the Film Retrospective is a shamefully amateurish video and is, at least for me, unwatchable!
It is poorly edited and strings together every pisspoor urban legend concerning my dear, late friend Brian Jones and the rest of The Rolling Stones.
It does a colossal disservice to any kind of unbiased historical perspective with its completely cobbled-up sensational wild tales. I believe it only seeks to fan the flames of outrage and absurd conspiracy theories by distorting every tiny kernel of truth into fantastic allegations.
There are a number of completely false notions that have coalesced about the late Brian Jones, and among the worst of those falsehoods is that Brian was some sort of martyr victimized by the members of the band he had founded.
In fact, I spent quite a bit of time living with Brian Jones. I was in the studio with him on numerous occasions and can attest to the fact that everyone was in awe of him, as he was a musician of the highest caliber.
“The difficult years” in truth should be narrowed down to the last two years of his life. In the aftermath of our bust on completely trumped-up charges, which occurred in April of 1967, Brian began in the late spring of 1967 to indulge in the wrong kinds of drugs coupled with excessive alcohol consumption, which had an exceedingly deleterious effect on his behavior, which in time grew quite erratic.
It didn’t help that his defense team considered him guilty and constantly issued quite unhelpful legal advice, which resulted in a needless self-estrangement from the members of his own band. Then, when all charges were dropped against me, Brian staunchly stuck to the advice of those foolish lawyers of his, and by pleading guilty to charges he was innocent of, he sealed his fate and nailed the proverbial first nail in his coffin. That was in late November of 1967, and he had less than two years to live.
However, that is not how such a genius should be remembered, and I cannot corroborate any of the cheap allegations that are gratuitously leveled at him in this unprofessional hodgepodge of nonsense calling itself a documentary.
In my professional opinion of actual historical facts, do not waste your time watching this appalling piece of garbage! I’ve shared it here so you know exactly which documentary you should SKIP.
